Why vehicles Fail MOT Emissions Test, a simple explanation...

The average vehicle engine, whether a personal car or a mechanical digger or even a helicopter, will be susceptible to the after effects of the combustion process. Take a really simple example, an open fire in your home for instance. You put on some coal or logs, you light them and they burn. What is left? In the case of logs, you get pure ash as long as the fire was hot enough. With coal you get a lot more smoke and again, unless the fire was hot enough you end up with lots of solids left over. Over time you have to keep cleaning out the fire grate in order to keep it clean to allow for a new fire to be built.

Engines are no different! Technology in both engine design and fuel additives has vastly improved over the years. Heightened demands of today's marketplace has ensured that new engine design technologies are implemented almost daily. Fuel is burnt now more efficiently than ever before in every type of combustion engine. But they still need to be maintained, 'cleaned out', just like your fire grate needs to be cleaned out.

The result of not servicing your engine is an inevitable build up of combustion by-products. Simply put, dirt! This dirt takes many different forms. Waxes, tars, carbon deposits or soot, as seen leaving your exhaust pipe.

Getting back to that fire grate, if you never clean it out it becomes more difficult to get a fire going. Air can't get in as well as it could. The fire won't be as hot and it will have a tendency to just smoke a lot and eventually you will find it almost impossible to even get it lit.

Your engine follows almost exactly the same process. Fuel and air. The better the fuel the better the fire. If the right amount of air can get to the flame then you'll have a great fire. In an engine, if it can't burn the fuel correctly then it will eventually fail.

Essentially, a dirty engine will not be as efficient as a clean and properly maintained engine.

Our two main products are designed simply as effective cleaning agents. We do not make any big claims about increasing power, halving your miles per gallon or saving a fortune because such products do not exist and probably never will.

What we do aim to tell you however is that by keeping your engine in tip-top condition, it should always perform as it was intended and designed to do. Most modern engines now have built in computerised management systems that continuously adjust the combustion process to keep it all running as efficiently as possible. Even if certain components become dirty and slightly less efficient, these systems compensate automatically without you even noticing. But there are limits to what these systems can do. They can't actually clean the dirty components, they can't tell you that you just put inferior and possibly cheap fuel in, neither can they tell you to drive more efficiently.

So from our point of view, all you have to do is use a really good fuel injection cleaner/conditioner like ours and also use a really good engine oil flush product like ours once in a while and you should have an engine that is clean on the inside and effectively more efficient.

An engine that is clean on the inside will be a much more efficient engine. You will maintain lower CO² emissions, keep your MPG's as they were intended and have all the power your engine was designed to give you. Plus as a bonus, you will save money too over the longer term by not using more fuel than you should by having a dirty engine. You won't be pumping out more harmful emissions than you should due to a dirty engine and, you probably won't be thinking of buying another vehicle so soon because you think your existing vehicle is getting old and tired. It probably just has a dirty engine!
